MSF or MiM

Which option do you think offer better career prospects? The programs that I've been looking at for the MSF are WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Texas, and Tulane. I've also been looking at other programs at Duke, Michigan, and Notre Dame. Also, do you think I have much of a chance at these types of programs or should I look at lesser known schools? I don't have a very good GPA (~3.2) or work experience and have only taken practice tests for the GRE where I'm scoring in the 80th-90th percentile in both sections. I also majored in History and have an Econ minor from a non-target school. Thanks.

Hello WSO users

A friend introduced me to the forum and heard that this is a great place for some solid advice.

I am an international student and I go to a semi/target NYC and target Chicago area undergrad business school. I was overconfident for the recruiting season probably and so I did not manage to get any jobs yet. I had seven final round interviews and no job offers. So as a back up I decided to apply for MSF programs and took the GMAT. Scored miserably! Got a 640. I am little devastated after hundreds of thousands of $$ my parents spent on my education I have not been able to deliver.

So I was hoping if any one can chance me.

All the school are kinda in their 3rd or 4th rounds so I am not sure what chance I have with my stats. But here goes:

University of Illinois Urbana Champaign vs. Tulane MSF

which of these programs, should I get in, is better for a DOMESTIC student's job prospects in IB, ER, PE/HF (long run)? I wanna work in NYC ultimately. Both look really good: both are CFA partner institutes. I do like UIUC's location, but Tulane looks good too. Also, which has more domestic students? An issue with UIUC is that they don't tell you what percentage of students are domestic vs. international, Tulane does. Its that I do wanna network with more of my fellow MSFs. Also, which has better FO recruiting? Which school has a better rep on The Street?

Johns Hopkins MSF vs Rochester MSF, thanks!

Hi all,

Recently I got admission to two MSF programs, Johns Hopkins MSF and Rochester MSF, and I am having a tough time making the decision because I don't know which one is better.

There is no doubt that JHU has a stronger name, however, JHU plans to enroll 450 students in its MSF program and most of them are Chinese. It is such a huge number that I am worrying students may not have enough caeer support. Besides, and the curriculum of JHU MSF is not so well either.

I sincerely hope you guys could give me some insight and help me evaluate these two program, thanks!

I am an international student and my undergraduate major is Electronical Engineering. My career goal after MSF is going into consulting.

Again, thanks so much!

Dilemma - MSF vs IB SA internship?

Hi all,

I was recently admitted to USC's MSF program but can't decide if I should attend because I also received a IBD SA offer (think Citi/SocGen/Barclays) in NYC. Currently I attend undergrad at a target school. Should I go for the MSF program, which starts in the summer, or take the summer analyst gig? Any thoughts appreciated.

Tulane MFin in New Orleans or Baruch MSF in NYC

Hey guys! I am currently in a conflict selecting grad school between Tulane and Baruch. I have two internships in Asset Management and would love to secure a similar job after graduation. I know both of them are not great schools but I only got offers from them.
The quality of Tulane's MFin program is good, but the location is too bad for finance. Baruch is said to have great reputation in New York, and the MFE MSA program are really good, but the MSF program is new, so I am not sure about the quality of the MSF program.
I was recently told that Baruch Zicklin business school has almost 100% placement. I am just wondering if it's true and whether will it be easy to find a job in New York after graduate from the MSF Program.

Thank you!

USC MSF or Brandeis Masters in International Economics & Finance

Hi everyone,

I am facing a bit of a dilemma as I got accepted into the USC MSF program, and the Brandeis MAeif program, and am not sure which one to choose. I like the Brandeis program as it has an Economics component to it, as well as many more specialization opportunities vs. the USC program, and to be quite honest I am not 100% sure if I want to pursue finance as a career in the future (I am leaning more towards the Economics side). I feel like if I were to attend Brandeis' program I would have a wider net of career opportunities whereas if I were to go to USC I would have to stick to Finance and nothing else. At the same time, however, I think that Brandeis' reputation probably isn't nearly as good as USC's...

MSF Decisions: Texas vs Villanova vs WUSTL- Singapore

New member here. I am trying to gauge some reactions about these programs. Background on me. I am international student and a recent graduate of a semi-target.

Being international, I am kinda nudging towards the WUSTL-Singapore program since I know how difficult it is currently for internationals students to get a job in the States. I went through hell and ended up with a job at a decent firm but they have decided against giving me a H1B because of costs. So, I kinda don't want to go through this shit again. Don't get me wrong, I love America, college had been the best years of my life. And I would prefer to get a job here in the States but I am apprehensive afters my experience.

Help : MSF decision

Hello,

I am an international student and have applied for MSF in US. So far I have got into following universities.

Texas A&M uni - MSF - Cheapest among all and better reputation overall. Also target (or maybe semi-target) for Texas. But first year for international students so don't know about the placement. Maybe some TRIP track people can comment on this.

Purdue uni - MSF (average priced, but don't know whether target for Chicago market or not. Also many people on this forum have suggested not to attend)

Arizona - MMF (safety)

USC - Didn't here anything yet (but don't think I can get in)

I am planning to apply to Notre Dame and SMU this month (a bit of late to apply, but I'll try). I know all these aren't tear 1 universities but that is the best I can get into.

Villanova vs Vanderbilt MSF or is it better to wait and just apply for MBA?

Okay I've been accepted to both and they say I don't have much time for acceptance as classes are beginning in July but I'm torn between which one to choose. A little about my background: I'm an international candidate and never been to US before. My undergrad is Non-target UK Applied Accounting with a converted GPA of 3.8(first class honors) & 730 GMAT. My post MSF goal is to work in IBD or Consulting and plan on doing MBA after 2 or 3 of graduation. My questions are, considering the job placements of both schools, which one should I go with? I've never really given a thought to working in NYC. I'm more inclined towards Vandy's location, Texas or the West Coast. And another question is what are the job placements for international students like?

Question about CMC Internship

CMC

I was looking at their web earlier and came across "summer internships". Does anyone on here know what the exactly mean by that? I'm all confused because this is what I read

"The Master’s Program in Finance students are available for internships during the summer before they start the one-year graduate program"

Does this mean the students have to show up & do the summer internship before the classes actually start in August? Is this a compulsory thing? I'll attach a screenshot also :)

Need some MSF advice

Hello everyone,

Need some advice so I am turning to this forum. I am an international student who went to a top 10 undergraduate business school (semi-target) and recently graduated in May. After graduation I came back to my home country and worked in the family business. But I have not enjoyed this experience at all and after discussion with my parents I have decided to pursue a MSF and also try and find a job in the States. I greatly enjoyed my college and internship experiences in the States

I want to go to a school where the student population is not too greatly skewed by the international students. And where the schools at least provide a modicum of help to the international students.
